Roman Catholic Diocese of Funing

The diocese Xiapu (Latin: Dioecesis Funimensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Xiapu in the People's Republic of China.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded with the Breve Ad maiorem the Apostolic Vicariate of Funing on December 27, 1923 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Foochow. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Diocese.

The State Council of the People's Republic of China has united the six dioceses of the province of Fujian in three dioceses: the Diocese of Funing is now known as the Diocese of Mindong.

On August 25, died in 2005 Bishop James Xie Shiguang, who was ordained in 1984. At his death the diocese had 75,000 faithful, 30 priests and 50 members of two religious communities. He was succeeded by Vincent Zhan Silu by a bishop.
