Roman Catholic Diocese of Gaborone

The Diocese of Gaborone (Latin: Dioecesis Gaboronensis ) is a diocese located in Botswana, based in Gaborone.

History

Pope John XXIII. founded with the Apostolic Constitution Cum Venerabiles Fratres the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland annexations of the dioceses Bulawayo, Kimberley and the Apostolic Vicariate of Windhoek on April 2, 1959. Originally comprising the entire territory of the Protectorate.

With the Apostolic Constitution Sanctae Ecclesiae it was collected on August 5, 1966 Gaberones diocese, which was the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein assumed as suffragan. On April 7, 1970, it adopted its present name.

A part of its territory lost it on June 27, 1998, the Apostolic Vicariate of Francistown and on 5 June 2007, it was the Archdiocese of Pretoria assumed as suffragan.
