Roman Catholic Diocese of Görlitz

The Diocese of Görlitz (Latin: Dioecesis Gorlicensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in eastern Germany and includes the Lower Lausitz in Brandenburg and the north-eastern part of Upper Lusatia, part of the Free State of Saxony. This is the diocese in the Diaspora.

History

Prehistory

From the Reformation to the Congress of Vienna

After the Reformation, the Catholic Church being in the Electorate of Brandenburg and the two Lusatias was practically gone. Only the Cistercian monastery Neuzelle and the parishes Jauernick, which belonged to the Cistercian convent of Marienthal and Wittichenau to the Cistercian convent Marienstern remained Catholic. After a big part of Lusatia fell to Prussia as a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the territory of today's diocese was annexed by the Bull " De salute animarum " the diocese of Breslau.

Archdiocese of Wroclaw

In the Archdiocese of Wroclaw elected after the death of Archbishop Adolf Bertram Breslau on July 6, 1945, the cathedral chapter of Breslau on July 16, the dean Ferdinand Piontek to the vicar. Archbishop Ordinariate Breslau / branch Görlitz

In September 1945, the Breslau Domkapitularen prelate Ludwig Cuno (* July 15, 1881 Kassel, † August 1, 1949 Görlitz), brother of the Chancellor ( November 1922-August 1923 ), Wilhelm Cuno, and Emanuel Tinschert ( 1883-1968 ) a branch the Generalvikariats Breslau set up for the west of the Oder and Lusatian Neisse -lying parts of the Archdiocese of Wroclaw. Archbishop's Office Görlitz
