Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg

The Diocese of Harrisburg (Latin: Dioecesis Harrisburgensis ) is located in Pennsylvania in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Harrisburg.

History

Pope Pius IX. founded it on 3 March 1868 cession of territory of the Diocese of Philadelphia and it became the Archdiocese of Baltimore assumed as suffragan.

On February 12, 1875 became a part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The counties of Lycoming and Centre lost it on May 30, 1901 in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Altoona.

The Diocese of Harrisburg comprises the counties of Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder, Union and York of the State of Pennsylvania.
