Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena

The Diocese of Helena (Latin: Dioecesis Helenensis ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Helena. It includes the nine counties of Lewis and Clark, Teton, Flathead, Lincoln, Missoula, Sanders, Powell, Granite, Ravalli, Deer Lodge, Silver Bow, Jefferson, Broadwater, Gallatin, Madison, Lake and Beaverhead plus part of the counties of Meagher, Musselshell and Toole of the state of Montana.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Montana on March 5, 1883 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Idaho and Nebraska. On the 11th of this month was a part of the territory of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.

On March 7, 1884 was raised to the bishopric and adopted its current name. A part of its territory lost it on May 18, 1904, the Great Falls.
