Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu
The Diocese of Honolulu (Latin: Dioecesis Honoluluensis ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Honolulu, Hawaii.
History
The Diocese of Honolulu was posted on November 27, 1825 by Pope Leo XII. established as Apostolic Prefecture Sandwich Islands. On August 13, 1844, the Apostolic Prefecture Sandwich Islands was by Pope Gregory XVI. with the Apostolic Constitution Pastorale officium elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate Sandwich Islands in 1848 renamed Hawaiian Islands in apostolic vicariate. On January 25, 1941, the Vicariate Apostolic of Hawaiian Islands was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the bishopric and renamed Diocese of Honolulu. It was the Archdiocese of San Francisco, is a suffragan.
