Roman Catholic Diocese of Iquique

The Diocese of Iquique (lat.: Dioecesis Iquiquensis, Spanish: diócesis de Iquique ) is a diocese located in Chile of the Roman Catholic church located in Iquique.

History

The Diocese of Iquique in 1880 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the Diocese of Arequipa built as Apostolic Vicariate of Tarapacá. On 20 December 1929, the Apostolic Vicariate of Tarapacá was by Pope Pius XI. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Iquique. On February 17, 1959, the diocese was part of its territory from establishing the Territorialprälatur Arica. The Diocese of Iquique announced on July 21, 1965 from another time parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälatur Calama.

The Diocese of Iquique is the Archdiocese of Antofagasta is a suffragan.
