Roman Catholic Diocese of Liepāja

The Diocese of Liepāja (Latin: Dioecesis Liepaiensis, Latvian Liepaja diecēze ) is since 1937 and located in Latvia Roman Catholic diocese based in Liepaja ( Libau ). It is, as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Riga.

History

The diocese was on May 8, 1937 areas of the Archdiocese of Riga with the Bull Aeterna animarum salus by Pope Pius XI. founded. In 1995 there was a part of his diocese from territory to the establishment of the Diocese of Jelgava. It corresponds largely to the Latvian region of Kurzeme.
