History

The Diocese of Loikaw was established on November 14, 1988 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesia Catholica out of territory of the diocese of Taunggyi. It is the Archdiocese of Taunggyi is a suffragan. First bishop was Sotero Phamo.
