Roman Catholic Diocese of Luz

The Diocese of Luz (Latin: Dioecesis Luceatinus ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic diocese based in Luz in the state of Minas Gerais.

History

Pope Benedict XV. founded the bishopric aterrado on 18 July 1918 with the Apostolic Constitution Romanis Pontificibus out of territory of the diocese of the Archdiocese of Uberaba and Mariana, where it was assumed as a suffragan. On 1 February 1924 it has been part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte.

A part of its territory lost it on July 11, 1958 in favor of the establishment of the diocese of Divinópolis. On 5 December 1960, adopted the current name.

The Diocese of Luz includes the municipalities Abaeté, Cedro do Abaeté, Arcos, Bambui, Bom Despacho, Campos Altos, Capitólio, Córrego Danta, Tapiraí, Córrego Fundo, Dores do Indaiá, Doresópolis, Estrela do Indaiá, Serra da Saudade, Formiga, Iguatama, Japaraíba, Lagoa da Prata, Luz, Medeiros, Moema, Morada Nova de Minas, Paineiras, Pains, Pimenta, Piumhi, Pratinha, Quartel Geral, Santa Rosa da Serra, Santo Antônio do Monte and Bonita Vargem of the state of Minas Gerais.
