Roman Catholic Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith
The Diocese of Mackenzie -Fort Smith (Latin: Dioecesis Mackenziensis Arcis - Smith ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic diocese based in Fort Smith.
History
The Diocese of Mackenzie -Fort Smith was established on July 3, 1901 as a result of the division of the Apostolic Vicariate of Athabaska Mackenzie as Apostolic Vicariate of Mackenzie. The Apostolic Vicariate of Mackenzie announced on 9 March 1908 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Yukon -Prince Rupert.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Mackenzie was born on July 13, 1967 by Pope Paul VI. charged with the apostolic constitution Quae ad rei to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Mackenzie -Fort Smith. It is the Archdiocese of Grouard - McLennan is a suffragan.
