Roman Catholic Diocese of Mazara del Vallo

The diocese of Mazara del Vallo (Latin: Dioecesis Mazariensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Sicily, based in Mazara del Vallo. It belongs to the Ecclesiastical Province of Palermo region of Sicily and the church is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Palermo.

History

The diocese of Mazara del Vallo was built in 1093 by Roger I.. The bishops of the 12th century found themselves temporarily as successors of the bishops of the lost during the Norman conquest diocese Lilybaeum. For a long time there was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Monreale. When the church province of Monreale was dissolved on 2 December 2000, the diocese of the Ecclesiastical Province of Palermo has been assigned.
