Roman Catholic Diocese of Nancy

The Diocese of Nancy- Toul (Latin: Dioecesis Nanceiensis - Tullensis ), sometimes simply called the diocese of Nancy, is a tourist destination in France Roman Catholic diocese in the area of ​​the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle.

History

Since the fourth century, the areas around Nancy and Toul belonged to the diocese of Toul, and thus formed part of the Trois- Évêchés, suffragan dioceses of the archbishopric of Trier.

With papal bull erected on November 19, 1777 Pope Pius VI. the bishoprics of Nancy and Saint- Dié.

In the Concordat of July 15, 1801 between the Holy See and of the First French Republic and the measures adopted in implementation Papal Bull Qui Christi Domini the bishoprics of Saint -Dié and Verdun were incorporated with effect from 29 November 1802 in the diocese of Nancy, the now comprised three departments: Meurthe, Meuse and Vosges. The latter two were separated in 1822 and the bishoprics of Saint -Dié and Verdun restored.

With the Concordat, the bishoprics were also dismissed from the Archbishopric of Trier and incorporated into the French diocesan system and assumed to be suffragan to the Archdiocese of Besançon.

Under Pope Leo XII. were united to the diocese of Nancy- Toul on 20 February 1824, the two bishoprics of Toul and Nancy.

The final connection Lorraine to the Kingdom of France and the reorganization of the dioceses was complete.
