Roman Catholic Diocese of Punta Arenas

The Diocese of Punta Arenas (Latin: Dioecesis Punta Arenas, Spanish: diócesis de Punta Arenas ) is a diocese located in Chile of the Roman Catholic church located in Punta Arenas.

History

The Diocese of Punta Arenas was born on October 4, 1916 by Pope Benedict XV. from the territory of the Apostolic Prefecture Patagonia built as Apostolic Vicariate Magallanes Islas Malvinas.

On January 27, 1947, the Apostolic Vicariate of Magallanes Islas Malvinas was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Papal Bull Ut in amplissimo Patagoniae Chilensis territorio to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Punta Arenas. The diocese is the Archdiocese of Puerto Montt is a suffragan.
