Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh

Located in the USA Diocese of Raleigh (Latin: Dioecesis Raleighiensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.

History

The Diocese of Raleigh was dissolved on March 3, 1868 the Diocese of Charleston as the Apostolic Vicariate of North Carolina and belonged to the Archdiocese of Baltimore on a suffragan. After it had ceded 3340 km ² to the new Territorial Abbey Belmont- Mary Help of Christians June 8th, 1910, it was raised on December 12, 1924 Diocese of Raleigh.

On April 17, 1944 large areas of the Territorial Abbey returned to the diocese. In July 1960 Raleigh Gaston County received from the Territorial Abbey and joined February 10, 1962 as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Baltimore to an archdiocese over Atlanta.
