Roman Catholic Diocese of RÄ“zekne-Aglona

Located in Latvia Rezekne - Aglona diocese (Latin: Dioecesis Rezeknensis - Aglonensis, Latvian Rēzeknes - Aglonas diecēze ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Rezekne. It was founded in 1995 with the Bull Ad aptius consulendum by John Paul II. It is, as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Riga, which was also a founding diocese. Its territory corresponds to the Latvian region Latgale. Cathedral ( Rēzeknes Jezus Sirds Cathedral ) to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church dedicated to the main city was charged.

With nearly a third of Catholics, the diocese may be regarded as one of the strongest in Latvia. With Aglona also probably the most important, but at least most popular place of pilgrimage Latvia lies on the territory of the diocese. First bishop of the diocese since 1995, the former Bishop of Liepāja, Jānis Bulis.
