Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare

The Diocese of Satu Mare (Latin: Dioecesis Satmariensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Romania.

History

Established as a diocese ( German Satu Mare ), (Hungarian Szatmari Egyházmegye ) on 23 March 1804 by Francis I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary and on August 9, 1804 by Pope Pius VII established and recognized by papal bull.

The Diocese of Satu Mare was incorporated on June 5, 1930 with the Diocese of Oradea Mare, but on June 28 in 1941 independently. On April 9, 1948, the re- union was performed with the Diocese of Oradea Mare, the Pope John Paul II on October 18, 1982 picked up again. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Bucharest, bishop since 2003 Jenő Schönberger. The bishop's seat is located in Satu Mare.
