Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton

The Diocese of Scranton (Latin: Dioecesis Scrantonensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States in Pennsylvania.

History

Pope Pius IX. erected the diocese and the bishoprics founded simultaneously Harrisburg and Wilmington on March 3, 1868 of territory of the diocese of Philadelphia. Since 1875 the Diocese of Scranton is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Episcopal Church is the St. Peter 's Cathedral in Scranton.

Territory

The Diocese of Scranton extends over the territory of the county of Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming in the State of Pennsylvania.
