Roman Catholic Diocese of Sindhudurg

The diocese of Sindhudurg (Latin: Dioecesis Sindhudurgiensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India. It is the only suffragan of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. The diocese consists of the districts of Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri, as well as parts of the district Kolhapur.

History

The diocese of Sindhudurg was on 5 July 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI. built with the Apostolic Constitution From oriente out of territory of the Diocese of Poona and assumed as a suffragan to the Archdiocese of Bombay. Anthony Alwyn Fernandes Barreto was appointed the first Bishop of Sindhudurg. Since 26 November 2006, the diocese is the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman assumed as suffragan.
