Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto

The Diocese of Sokoto (Latin: Dioecesis Sokotoensis ) is a location in Nigeria Roman Catholic diocese based in Sokoto.

History

The Diocese of Sokoto was born on June 29, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Ex iis praecipue built out of territory of the Apostolic Prefecture of Kaduna as Apostolic Prefecture of Sokoto.

On 16 June 1964, the Apostolic Prefecture of Sokoto was by Pope Paul VI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Summa clavium to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Kaduna is a suffragan. The Diocese of Sokoto announced on December 15, 1995 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Kontagora.
