The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois (Latin: Dioecesis Campifontis in Illinois ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Springfield, Illinois.

History

The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois was on July 29, 1853 by Pope Pius IX. out of territory of the Diocese of Chicago erected as Diocese of Quincy. The Diocese of Quincy was renamed on January 9, 1857 in the diocese of Alton. On January 7, 1887 Diocese of Alton were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Belleville. The Diocese of Alton was renamed on October 26, 1923 in Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.

The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois is the Archdiocese of Chicago is a suffragan.
