Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine

The Diocese of Saint Augustine (Latin: Sancti Dioecesis Augustini ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Jacksonville, Florida.

History

The Diocese of Saint Augustine was born on January 9, 1857 by Pope Pius IX. out of territory of the Diocese of Savannah built as Apostolic Vicariate of Florida. On March 11, 1870, the Apostolic Vicariate of Florida was by Pius IX. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quo catholico nomini to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Saint Augustine. It was the Archdiocese of Baltimore is a suffragan. The Diocese of Saint Augustine was on May 25, 1958 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Miami. On 10 February 1962, the Diocese of Saint Augustine was the archbishopric of Atlanta is a suffragan. The Diocese of Saint Augustine was on March 2, 1968 from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses of Orlando and Saint Petersburg. On 2 March 1968, the Diocese of Saint Augustine was the archbishopric of Miami is a suffragan. A further transfer of territory took place on 1 October 1975 foundation of the diocese Pensacola - Tallahassee.
