Roman Catholic Diocese of Steubenville

The Diocese of Steubenville (Latin: Dioecesis Steubenvicensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Steubenville, Ohio.

History

The diocese was by Pope Pius XII. founded on 21 October 1944 from the Diocese of Columbus out. It is suffragan of the Metropolitan Diocese of Cincinnati.

The first Bishop John King Mussio also founded the Seminary of St. John Vianney and the Franciscan University of Steubenville and Steubenville Catholic Central High School. The diocese significantly supported the expansion of the former Gill Hospital, now the Trinity Medical Center.

The Camaldolese have settled in the diocese territory with a Hermitage.
