Roman Catholic Diocese of Stockton

The Diocese of Stockton (Latin: Dioecesis Stocktoniensis ) is a located in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Stockton, California.

History

The Diocese of Stockton was born on January 13, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Ineunte vere built out of territory of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Diocese of Sacramento and the Archdiocese of San Francisco, is a suffragan. On September 15, 1966 the Diocese of Stockton, the area was affiliated with Alpine County.

In January 2014, the diocese declared the insolvency under Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy law. This was due to compensation equivalent to around ten million euros, which it had to pay as a result of several cases of child abuse. The diocese is the tenth in the United States, that this step had to go.
