Roman Catholic Diocese of Sumbawanga

The diocese of Sumbawanga (Latin: Dioecesis Sumbavangensis ) is a location in Tanzania Roman Catholic diocese based in Sumbawanga. It includes the southern part of the Rukwa region.

History

Pope Paul VI. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Karema with the Apostolic Constitution Quo maiora on May 10, 1946, the Apostolic Vicariate of territory Tanganyika.

With the bull Quemadmodum ad Nos it was raised on 25 March 1953 to the diocese. On 24 October 1969, adopted the current name. A part of its territory lost it on 23 October 2000 in favor of the establishment of the diocese Mpanda.
