Roman Catholic Diocese of Toruń

The Diocese of Toruń (Latin: Dioecesis Thoruniensis, poln: Diecezja Toruńska ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Poland. It belongs to the Ecclesiastical Province of Gdansk.

History

Toruń is one of the recent Polish dioceses. It ( Totus Tuus Poloniae Populus Apostolic Constitution on March 25 ) was obtained from areas of the Archdiocese of Gniezno and Diocese of Kulm (now Pelplin ) founded in the restructuring of the Catholic Church in Poland in 1992. The former Płock Bishop Andrzej Wojciech Suski ( Titular Bishop of Pulcheriopolis ) became the new bishop of Thorn. The Church of St John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, since 1935 Minor Basilica, was raised in 1992 to the Cathedral. Co-Cathedral (since 1994 ) is the Holy Trinity Church in Kulmsee.

Divided into four sections The coat of arms of the Diocese of Toruń, showing in box 1 on a blue background, the "Lamb of God " as a symbol of John the Baptist, Field 2 on a red background the eagle as a symbol of John (Evangelist ), the two Johns are the patron saints of the Cathedral of Thorn, field 3 on white / silver background, an anchor, the emblem of the first bishop Andrzej Wojciech Suski, Section 4 on a yellow background an M as a symbol of Mary (Our Lady of Perpetual Help ).

The insignia of the Prince-Bishops of Kulm ( miter, crozier and sword) were taken with the right and left hanging miter, from the 15th century to crest.

Andrzej Wojciech Suski

Born 24 December 1941 in Plock, ( Masovian Voivodeship ), ( Poland), on June 13, 1965 ordained a priest appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Plock and titular bishop of Pulcheriopolis on August 12, 1986, he received episcopal consecration on 4 October 1986 by Cardinal Józef Glemp the Archbishop of Warsaw, he was appointed Bishop of Toruń on 25 March 1992. In the Polish Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Permanent Council and member of the Commission for the Clergy.

Auxiliary Bishops

January Chrapek CSMA

Born on July 18, 1948 in Iwaniska (Poland ) was consecrated on 3 May 1975 religious priests. Appointed on 25 May 1992 as Auxiliary Bishop in Drohiczyn and simultaneously to Titular Bishop of Cataquas. He received episcopal consecration on 6 June 1992 by the Apostolic Nuncio to Poland, Archbishop Jozef Kowalczyk. On 20 June 1994, he was auxiliary bishop in Toruń. On 28 June 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Radom; † October 18, 2001

Józef Szamocki

Born on October 4, 1954 in Gdynia (Poland), consecrated on 29 April 1979 priests. And simultaneously appointed on 20 April 2000 as Auxiliary Bishop in Toruń titular bishop of Clypia. He received episcopal consecration of his diocesan bishop Andrzej Wojciech Suski; he also appointed him to his vicar general.

His motto is: Servire Ecclesiae ( "In order to serve the Church " )

Its coat of arms shows on a white background a blue globe with black latitude and longitude, about the DEW ( cross of St. Anthony ), left and right 2 blue letters EM Mater Ecclesia - Mother Church.
