Roman Catholic Diocese of Vijayawada

The diocese of Vijayawada (Latin: Dioecesis Viiayavadanus ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Vijayawada.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the mission sui juris Bezwada with the Apostolic Constitution regno Christi on January 10, 1933 cessions of territory of the Diocese of Hyderabad.

On April 13, 1937, she was elevated to the bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Madras assumed as suffragan. It received its current name on 21 October 1950. September 19, 1953, was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad.

On 9 December 1976, it lost part of its territory to the bishopric of Eluru. On 16 October 2001 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam.
