Roman Catholic Diocese of Viseu

The diocese of Viseu (Latin: Dioecesis Visensis ) is a location in Portugal Roman Catholic diocese based in Viseu.

History

The diocese of Viseu was 572 by Pope John III. built and the Archdiocese of Mérida is a suffragan. As a result of the Islamic expansion, the Diocese of Viseu went under in the year 718. Since 1101 the diocese of Viseu was administered by the bishops of Coimbra. On February 27, 1120, the diocese of Viseu was the Archdiocese of Braga, is a suffragan. 1147 was erected the diocese of Viseu as a result of the Reconquista again. On August 24, 1938, the diocese of Viseu were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Aveiro.
