Roman Catholic Diocese of Wichita

The Diocese of Wichita (Latin: Dioecesis Wichitensis ) is a location in Kansas in the United States Roman Catholic diocese based in Wichita.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the bishopric of Wichita on August 2, 1887 cessions of territory of the Diocese of Leavenworth. On 19 May 1951, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Dodge City.

The Diocese of Wichita comprises the counties of Allen, Bourbon, Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Cowley, Crawford, Elk, Greenwood, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Labette, Marion, McPherson, Montgomery, Morris, Neosho, Reno, Rice, Sedgwick, Sumner, Wilson, and Woodson of the State of Kansas.
