Roman Catholicism in Sweden

The Roman Catholic Church in Sweden is a diaspora church. In the Diocese of Stockholm (Latin Dioecesis Holmiensis ), there are approximately 165,000 Roman Catholics (2002) in 41 parishes. The diocese area is 450,295 km ², which corresponds to the surface state of the Kingdom of Sweden. The Roman Catholics are cared for pastorally by 145 priests, of whom about 69 diocesan priests. In the pastoral activity about 14 deacons and about 225 nuns are integrated. Since 17 November 1998 is the first Swede Anders Arborelius the Carmelite Bishop of Stockholm. The bishops of Sweden gather in the Nordic Bishops' Conference.
