Roman Maciejewski

Roman Maciejewski ( born February 28, 1910 in Berlin, † April 30, 1998 in Gothenburg ) was a Polish composer, pianist and conductor.

Life

Maciejewski had from the age of five piano lessons with his mother. He studied from 1916 to 1919 at the Stern Komservatorium. He then continued his education in Poznan Bohdan Zaleski at ( Piano), Wladyslaw Raczkowski (music theory ), Kazimierz Sikorski (harmony and counterpoint) and Stanisław Wiechowicz continued ( solfege ).

Since 1930, he led the Stanislaw Moniuszko Choir in poses, with whom he undertook concert tours through Poland and Germany. In 1932 he began studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music with Karol Szymanowski, he broke off in favor of a concert tour as a pianist through the Balkans. In 1934 he studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

From 1939 to 1961 Maciejewski lived in Sweden, where he composed several incidental music for productions Ingmar Bergmans (including Albert Camus ' Caligula ) and began composing his Missa pro defunctis, which he finished in only fifteen years later. It was premiered at the International Festival of Contemporary Music in 1960 in Warsaw.

In 1951 he moved to the U.S. and settled in Redondo Beach, California. He was organist there two Catholic churches and led the Roman Choir. In 1977 he returned to Sweden and settled in Gothenburg.
