Roman Polko

Roman Polko ( born November 8, 1962 in Tychy, Poland ) is a general of division of the Polish Armed Forces and current head of the " Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego " (German Agency for National Security ). He is a former commander of the unit GROM Polish Special Forces.

Polko completed his studies at the Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of the Army in Wrocław. Subsequently, he served in an intelligence unit in Dziwnow, and later in the " first Special Commando Regiment " in Lubliniec as a platoon leader. Between 1992 and 1994 he took part in the UNPROFOR peacekeeping mission in the former Yugoslavia. In 1994, after his service as an executive officer of the " Czerwone Berety " (red beret ) in Kraków, Polko took a renewed study of the " Academy for National Security," in Warsaw. He also completed a Ranger and Pathfinder Course at the U.S. Army. 1998 Polko was commander in chief of the "6 Airborne Battalion " in Bielsko- Biała, which was part of the Polish Militärkontigents of KFOR in Kosovo. Between 26 May 2000 and 11 February 2004, he was commander of the Polish special unit " GROM ". This led Polko during Operation Iraqi Freedom. 2006 Polko was now promoted to colonel, commander of GROM again, but only for a short time. In March 2006, followed by a promotion to brigadier general, as well as an offset to the " Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego " where Polko took up the post of deputy head. There he was appointed in August 2007 as chief after his former boss took the post of Polish Interior Minister. On August 15, 2007 Polko was promoted to Major General.
