Roman Jurjewitsch Romanenko, Russian Роман Юрьевич Романенко ( born August 9, 1971 in Schtscholkowo, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian cosmonaut. He was commander of the spaceship Soyuz TMA -15 flight engineer on the International Space Station (ISS).

Studies and military

Romanenko studied from 1986 to 1988 at the Suvorov Military School in Leningrad, then at the pilot school Chernihiv, which he left in 1992 as a pilot - engineer. Subsequently, he served in the Russian Air Force and flew there Aero L -39 and Tupolev Tu- 134 and can demonstrate over 500 flight hours.

Cosmonauts activity

Romanenko was selected as a cosmonaut on 28 July 1997. He completed his basic training from December 1, 1999. As of January 2000, he was trained for a stay aboard the ISS. The launch took place on May 27, 2009. On board were the Belgian Frank De Winne and Canadian Robert Thirsk. On 1 December 2009 Romanenko landed back on Earth.

On his second space flight launched Romanenko on 19 December, 2012. As commander of Soyuz TMA- 07M he flew with the Canadian Chris Hadfield and American Tom Marshburn to the ISS, where he spent six months as a flight engineer of ISS Expeditions 34 and 35 works.
