Roman Rupp

Roman Rupp (born 25 January 1964 in St. Andrae, Carinthia ) is an Austrian former alpine skier. The downhill specialist scored a podium finish in World Cup Skiing and participated in the World Cup 1989.

Career

Rupp came in the late 1970s in the Carinthian provincial cadres and a few years later in the squad of the Austrian Ski Federation. As early as 1983 he had his first appearance in the World Cup. The points he ranks but not yet reached the time being, partly because he had always struggled with injuries. Greater success he succeeded in the European Cup, when he finished equal on points in the 1984/85 season with the Swiss Luc Genolet second place in the downhill standings.

His first World Cup points Rupp brought on 25 January 1987 at the Streif in Kitzbühel. After that, he did not come back two years in the top 15 before he, as a complete surprise went with the high start number 43 on January 13, 1989, also on the Kitzbühel Streif to third place. This result, which was also his best World Cup result ever was, though his only this winter in the points, but it enabled the Carinthian participating in the world championship in 1989 in Vail, where he finished ninth.

In the 1989/90 season Rupp came five times into the top 15, his best results were the sixth courses in Kitzbuehel and Val d'Isere. He came to ninth in the downhill World Cup. However, due to an injury he could throughout the following winter incur no race. The " comeback season " 1991/92 was extremely disappointing. His best finish was only a 30th place at the Lauberhorn in Wengen. Rupp lost the squad membership and then ended his career. Today he lives and works as a massage therapist in Wolfsberg (Carinthia ).
