Roman Statkowski

Roman Statkowski ( born December 24, 1859 in Kalisz / Szczypiorno, † November 12, 1925 in Warsaw) was a Polish composer and music educator.

Statkowski first studied law at Warsaw University, for composition with Władysław Żeleński at the Warsaw Music Institute. He continued his education at the Conservatory of St. Petersburg continues with Nikolai Solovyov and Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov. In 1890 he was awarded with a diploma in composition and orchestration with gold medal.

At the International Composition Competition of London, he won the first prize with the opera Filenis ( after the drama of Hermann Erler ), in the following year with the opera Maria (after a poem by Antoni Malczewski ) won first prize at the International Composition Competition in Warsaw.

Since 1904 he worked as a professor at the Warsaw Music Institute, first as a teacher of music aesthetics and history, according to Zygmunt Noskowski death in 1909 for composition. Among his pupils were, inter alia, Jerzy Lefeld, Jan Adam Maklakiewicz, Feliks Wrobel, Piotr Perkowski, Kondracki Michał Kazimierz Wilkomirski and Bolesław Szabelski.
