Roman Turek

Roman Turek ( born May 21, 1970 in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech professional ice hockey goaltender, who during his career, among others, from 1996 to 2004 in the National Hockey League for the Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and the Calgary Flames and Nuremberg Ice Tigers played in the DEL.

Career

Roman Turek was pulled at the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 by the Minnesota North Stars in the sixth round ( total number 113). He played first then continue in the Czech league with HC Ceske Budejovice Budweis in 1995 until he joined the German Hockey League and played at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, where he graduated from 53 games.

He was voted the best goalkeeper of the Ice Hockey World Championship in 1996 and was first appointed to the NHL with the Dallas Stars, which were founded by a move of the team from Minnesota to Dallas. However, he initially got very little ice age and played mainly in the unterklassigen IHL. In the following two seasons, he often came in the NHL to use even if he was not the No. 1 and won in 1999 with the Dallas Stars to the Stanley Cup and along with goalkeeping colleague Ed Belfour the William M. Jennings Trophy. At the beginning of the season 1999/2000 Roman Turek was transferred to the St. Louis Blues, where he immediately made ​​it to the goalkeeper and the William M. Jennings Trophy again won for the / the goalkeeper with the fewest goals against. In summer 2001 they transferred him to the Calgary Flames where he was also the number 1. However, he had several injuries, which is why he completed only 18 games in the season 2003/ 04. During the lockout in the season 2004/ 05 no games in the NHL took place, which is why he went back to Budweis to play at HC České Budějovice in the Czech second league. With the team of HCCB he managed in the same season promotion to the Czech Extraliga.

Roman Turek is a big fan of Iron Maiden. He wanted to Eddie, the " mascot" of Iron Maiden, who on his goalie mask. In Germany he was Eddie paint on his mask and played with the mask at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers.
