Romanche

Upper reaches of the Romanche

The Romanche is a mountain river in France, which runs into the regions of Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur and Rhône -Alpes. It rises in the northern part of the central Dauphiné Alps, in the Ecrin National Park, below the glacier Plate of Agnaux, in the municipality of Villar- d'Arêne, drained generally northwesterly directions by one named after her Vallée de la Romanche and ends after 78 kilometers south of Grenoble, on the municipal boundary of Champ- sur- Drac and Jarrie, as a right tributary of the Drac. On their way the Romanche crosses the departments of Hautes -Alpes and Isère.

Attractions

In Freney d'Oisans the Romanche, the Lac du Chambon is dammed. Below the village, the river forms the impressive Gorges de l' Infernet. The wild waters of the upper Romanche suitable for kayaking and rafting.
