Romanus of Rouen

Romanus, French Saint Romain († October 23 640) is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was from 626 until his death in 640 bishop of Rouen. According to legend, he is said to have the dragon Gargouille who lived in the river Seine killed with the assistance of a convicted offender to death. Then the Privilege de St. Romain goes back a habit to release annually in his memory a prisoner.

Romanus is also revered as a saint of merchants. His patron's feast is the day he died, October 23.
