History

Line B

1954, the first line was opened. It connects the city center with its built for the World Exhibition new district EUR The route led first Stazione Termini ( central station) to Lauren Tina south of the city and represents the southern branch of today's line B dar. The section has a length of 11 km, of which 6 km were built underground in an open design.

On November 6, 1976, the company was taken over by the Acotral.

On 8 December 1990, the line B (7 km away underground, partially built in open cut and partly in shield tunneling ) was around 8 km to Rebibbia extended to the northeast. Today the route is 18.2 km long, has 22 stations and about 350,000 passengers per day.

Line A

Line A was opened in 1980. Set up went the distance between Anagnina the southeast and Ottaviano in the northwest, close to the Vatican City. The route, with the exception of a bridge over the Tiber, completely underground. The downtown section was excavated in shield tunneling, creates the outer sections of the route open design.

In addition, on 29 May 1999 was the commissioning of a 4.5 km long, built in shield tunneling extension from Ottaviano to Valle Aurelia in the West. An extension to three other stations to Battistini was finally opened on 1 January 2000.

The line A is now 18.4 km long, has 27 stations and about 500,000 passengers per day are transported here.

Construction delay

Financing difficulties and complicated planning processes contributed to the fact that the grid extension for a city the size of Rome has progressed very slowly. Metro Construction work in Rome always attracted more than originally planned.

A special problem are the numerous archaeological remains in the underground city of Rome. This problem could be alleviated that sections have been created in greater depth so that archaeologically relevant layers of the earth are pierced only in the access area of the stations.

CURRENT line network

Two subway lines with 48 stations and 38 km in length are currently in operation. Trains run daily from 5:30 clock to 23:30 clock and in the night from Saturday to Sunday to 0:30 clock. At peak times trains run 3 - to 4 -minute intervals, early morning and late evening every 8 to 10 minutes. Despite the tight clock trains in rush hours are hopelessly overcrowded.

The two lines A and B intersect, although the main train station, but have no track connection to each other. There are therefore two repair workshops, although both lines are compatible in terms of their technology.

Graffiti is in the Roman underground - both in stations and especially on vehicles - omnipresent. 2007, all stations receive new electronic platform barriers to reduce fare evasion rate. Numerous stations were disabled rebuilt.

Line A

Currently, extensive modernization measures in the older part section there will take place. The crossing station at the main station is currently (as of December 2011) also extensively modernized. Some time ago a new underground shopping center was opened as part of the renovation work at the central station. At both ends of line route extensions are planned.

Line B

End of 2005, construction began on a new branch line of Line B, which branch off at the station of Bologna to the north and will lead to the station Ionio in Montesacro district. The new branch line is called the "B1 ". In December 2011, the trial run was recorded on the section between Bologna and Conca d' Oro. He went on 13 June 2012. The rest of the way to the last stop Ionio to be commissioned in May 2014. About the existing terminal stations beyond even extensions are also planned in the actual line B.

Modernization and new track projects

Line C

The line C is under construction. It is built since April 2006 in the shield tunneling through the old town and on to near the Vatican to the north. The 8.8km section of Giardinetti to Pantano Borghese the narrow gauge railway (now suburban railway Roma - Giardinetti ) was signed July 4, 2008. He is remodeled to be integrated into the future line C of the metro.

Line C will be 25.5 km long, have 30 stations and will be operated fully automatically with the Driverless Metro System AnsaldoBreda.

The schedule for completion of work on the various sections:

Any additional sections are still in the planning and financing stage. At a later date to a branch line of Teano run to Colli Aniene, another branch campus of the second University of Rome, Tor Vergata, lead. The line C is then the line B intersect A at the stations, Ottaviano and San Giovanni, the line at the Colosseo. In March 2007 it was decided that the line C in the north of the currently planned terminus Piazzale Clodio made to extend by a further nine stations and 9 km to Via Cassia at Grottarossa.

The results of archaeological exploratory work led to the first rescheduling of railway stations: the entrances to the station Venezia significantly modified the important interchange station Argentina is omitted.

Line D

In June 2006, preparations began for the construction of the line D, which shall also be operated fully automatically.

Work on a first section between Fermi, Trastevere and Prati Fiscali (11 km with twelve stations, 2.9 billion euros ) due to start in the next few years. An eastern ( to Via Ugo Ojetti in the Northeast, 5 km with six stations ) and a southern extension (up to Piazzale dell'Agricoltura in the EUR district, 4 km with four stations ) is planned for a later date. The cost of the line D expected to be around 3 billion euros. Since the funding has not yet been clarified, the start of construction is not yet clear.
