Romed Baumann

Romed Baumann (born 14 January 1986 in St. Johann in Tyrol ) is an Austrian alpine skier. It starts in all disciplines, achieved his best World Cup results first in the super combined and giant slalom, and since the 2010/11 season successfully, especially in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super -G. At the World Championships he won in 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, the silver medal in the team competition and in 2013 in Schladming the bronze medal in the super combined.

Biography

Romed Baumann grew up as the son of a railway worker and a teacher at the biathlon stronghold Hochfilzen. With three years he got from his parents his first pair of skis, already he began as a primary school at the ski club of his hometown under Helmut Niedermoser with the ski training. He graduated from the Matura in Saalfelden and today as a regular soldier of the armed forces of the national team of the Austrian Ski Federation ( Austrians ).

The Tyrolean already showed his talent as a student and moved by his success with time over the district squad to the squad in the country Ski on. In 2003, he came into the Austrian Ski Federation junior squad, two years later saw him rise to the B squad. Following his victory in the downhill at the Junior World Championships in Maribor in 2004 he was allowed to make his debut in the World Cup and finished the downhill skiing in Sestriere 26th position. In the season 2004/ 05 he went further in the European Cup and placed himself regularly be among the first 15 runners. In the same year, the Tyrolean crowned with victory in the Alpine combined for the first time in his young career with the Austrian champion in the general class.

In the winter of 2005/ 06 he won in Quebec City the title of World Junior Champion in the combination, finished this season his first podium in the European Cup, reaching the overall victory in the European Cup downhill. Because of these good performances followed in 2006 by the inclusion in the A-team of the Austrian Ski Federation. In the World Cup he came to his debut again until 2006 at the Finnish Levi to use and was able to draw attention to themselves with the 14th place in the slalom there. Shortly after, he reached in the Super Combined at the Reiteralm with second place surprisingly his first podium. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre, he finished seventh in the super combined.

Baumann was in the World Cup points to a stable driver and was often in the top 20, top 10 results were at first but the exception. At the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isère, he was eighth in the super combined. Shortly after he reached his best World Cup results of the 2008/09 season when he twice fourth in the giant slalom in Sestriere and Kranjska Gora was within a week and in the super combination of Sestriere celebrated his first World Cup victory. The next podium succeeded the Tiroler on 11 December 2009 finished third in the super combined in Val d'Isere. A further four times he came in the 2009/10 season in the top ten. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, he reached number five in the giant slalom, but fell in the super combined.

In the season 2010/11, Baumann was able to increase significantly in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super -G. He ran three times on the podium, the second place in the downhill in Val Gardena was his best result of the season, and another ten times into the top ten, which he in fifth place in the downhill World Cup, seventh in super- G World Cup and also finished seventh overall World Cup reached. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he won the silver medal in the team competition. At the World Championships 2013 in Schladming Baumann won the bronze medal in the super combined, where he scored the fastest time in downhill skiing.
