Romeo Bertini

Romeo Bertini (* April 21, 1893 in gessate Milan; † August 29, 1973 in Milan ) was an Italian athlete who in the mid 1920s as a marathon runner was successful. He started for the SC Agamennone in Milan.

In addition, he took part in Paris at the Olympic Games in 1924. There had to of 58 runners started no less than 28, the race because of the heat prematurely, including on the Italian side Alberto Cavallero, Angelo Malvicini, Ernesto and Ettore Alciati Blasi. Only Tullio Biscuola and Romeo Bertini came to the finish. Biscuola was 22, while Bertini achieved personal best time in the wake of the superior winner Albin Stenroos of Finland ( gold in 2:41:22,6 hours). With 2:47:19,6 hours he had indeed almost six minutes behind, but ran to a silver medal unchallenged as the third place winner, the American Clarence DeMar came to 2:48:14,0 hrs.

Four years later, at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, he took another shot, but could not finish the race.

In Bertinis hometown Gessate a sports palace bears his name.
