Rommersheim

Rommersheim is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Prüm.

Geography

Rommersheim is located in the North Eifel Nature Park near the Schneifel ridge in the upper reaches of the Nims.

The municipality consists of the two districts Rommersheim and Ellwerath. The hamlet Rommersheim includes the living spaces wide meadow valley, Meuteshof, Rommersheimerheld and Weinheimer hero.

History

The first written reference as romaira villa in 721, the name is possibly of Roman origin: " Home of the Romar ( Hruomar ) ". Rommersheim probably true of the central place of settlement of Caeroser ( Karos / Käruser ) in Carosgau. The place belonged to the basic rule of the Prüm Abbey (later Fürstabtei ). Until 1190 Rommersheim was mother parish for many places in the area. Until 1330 the parishes Prum, Olzheim, Gondenbrett, Wetteldorf, Fleringen, Weinheim, Waller Home, Schwirzheim, Mürlenbach, Birresborn, Densborn, Duppach, leeks and Pronsfeld emerged.

1498 the present parish church was built St. Maximin on the foundations of older predecessors (from about 650 to 1063 AD. ). 1576 consumed the Prüm Abbey in his electorate of one of the Archbishop of Trier, and thus belonged to the Electorate of Trier Rommersheim. 1794 march the French revolutionary troops.
