Romulus (martyr)

Romulus († 112) was, according to tradition, a Roman court official and Christian martyr.

Report of Simeon Metaphrastes According to the Romulus was a court official ( Prefect aulae ) of the Emperor Trajan. Romulus wished to persuade the emperor that it was absurd that Christian soldiers who were more numerous in the army, especially in the East, to pursue solely because of their faith, as the loss of such a brave and loyal warrior would weaken the defense force of the Empire. About this speech Trajan said to have been so angered that he had flogged and beheaded Romulus.

Romulus is venerated as a saint. His feast day is September 5.
