Ron Herron

Ronald "Ron" James Herron ( born August 12, 1930 in London, † 2 October 1994) was a British architect and author. In the 1960s he was a member of the Archigram group and head of the "Walking City".

Life

Herron studied architecture at the Brixton School of Building and Regent Street Polytechnic in London.

He was regarded as a silent observer and unshakable optimist who believed in the fulfillment of its urban utopias. In people and situations he always saw the good and positive. His exact observation was complemented by his extraordinary talent for drawing. The utopian city models, visionary architectural concepts and experimental habitats were published with growing international response, in the magazine Archigram. The Archigram Group first met in 1963 with the presentation of "Living City" in the public sphere in which she spoke out against this formal conventions and ways of thinking of architecture in favor of a more loose and free associations. Priority of their activities were pop culture and advanced technologies. The most important projects were Plug-In City, Walking City, Cushicle and Instant City. As Herron's most important projects within the Archigram group are "Walking City" ( 1964) and " Gaket Homes" (1965).

In 1981 he founded together with his sons Andrew and Simon in London, the architectural firm " Herron Associates ".

From 1965 to 1993 he taught at the Architecture Association in London. In 1994 he became Professor and Head of the School of Architecture at the University of London.
