Ron Mercer

Ronald (Ron ) Eugene Mercer ( born May 18, 1976 in Nashville, Tennessee ) is a retired American basketball player. The 2.01 m wide swingman from 1997 to 2005 in NBA active.

NBA

Mercer won with the University of Kentucky in 1996 NCAA Basketball Championship. When NBA Draft 1997, he was selected by the Boston Celtics in 6th place. At the time, took over Rick Pitino, his former college coach in Kentucky, the coach of the Celtics. Even his former college teammate Antoine Walker was at that time with the Celtics under contract. Were together with him and rookie colleague Chauncey Billups the Celtics to the youngest teams in the league. Mercer scored in his first year over 15 points per game and was named All- Rookie Team in the NBA at the end of the season. In his second year, Mercer established alongside Walker to the second power. However, the Celtics did not reach the playoffs in both years.

After two years, Mercer has been submitted to the Denver Nuggets. However, he played only 37 games for Denver, before they transferred him to the Orlando Magic. After the season he left Orlando and the Chicago Bulls closed in itself. In weak Bulls Mercer was next to Elton Brand, the strongest option in attack, scoring an average of 19.7 points per game. In spite of all that Mercer was transferred to the following season along with Ron Artest of the Indiana Pacers. In return, the Bulls Jalen Rose received. For the Pacers, he lost his place for the next few years.

In his last two stations with the San Antonio Spurs and New Jersey Nets, he filled out only the function of the role player. On 15 August 2005 he was fired from the Nets and found since no new team in the NBA.
