Ron Randell
Ron Randell ( born October 8, 1918 in Sydney, † 11 June 2005 in Mar Vista, Los Angeles, California ) was an Australian actor.
Life
Randell was born in Sydney, Australia. At the age of 17, he began as an actor for radio broadcasts, which he finally came to the stage. In 1942, he was with 100000 Cobbers his film debut and then played small roles, including 1944 next to Humphrey Bogart in To Have and Have Not. The first major film role was followed four years later: In the Australian production Smithy he embodied the 1946 Australian aviator Charles Kingsford Smith. The success of this film paved the way for him to Hollywood, where he slipped first in the succession of Ralph Richardson and Ray Milland as the sixth actor in the role of rich private detective Bulldog Drummond, he in 1947 in the films Bulldog Drummond at Bay Bulldog Drummond strikes and back personified.
This was followed by numerous large and small roles in B-movies of any genre, including in Western as Desert Sands in adventure films like Beyond Mombasa, in the comedy It had to be you next Ginger Rogers, in science fiction films such as Captive Women and in horror movies as The She - Creature. He also appeared in major productions, as in the musical Kiss me Kate! as Cole Porter and in the war film The Longest Day. In the 1960s, Randell shot several films in Europe, so the Italian historical film The Gold of the Caesars and the German Comedy Toller Hecht on monkey business with Christine Kaufmann. In 1971 he played the role of landowner Benjamin Nicholson in Fassbinder Südstaatenmelodram Whity.
He was also a very busy performer of many guest roles in television series. From 1954 to 1955 he also presented the series The Vise, and in 1957 he played the lead role in the short-lived television series OSS. Moreover, he wrote plays such as Hypo Crisis.
Randell was married to the German dancer and actress Laya Raki since 1958. He died on 11 June 2005 at the Mar Vista Medical Center in Los Angeles on the effects of a stroke.
