Ron Sutter

Ronald Sutter ( born December 2, 1963 in Viking, Alberta) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and currently works as a scout for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. During his career he played for the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks and Calgary Flames.

Career

Ron Sutter began his career in 1980 with the Lethbridge Broncos in the Canadian Junior Football League WHL where he played along with his twin brother Rich and his older brother Brent. Sutter had a solid first year. In the season 1981/82 he was able to yield more than double his points and was selected in the summer by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft in 1982 in the first round in fourth position. In the same year, the Pittsburgh Penguins secured in the same round the rights to his twin brother, but six positions later. Although Ron Sutter was in the 1982/83 season his debut, but came mainly continue in the WHL Lethbridge to use, just playing an important role in the playoffs with 22 goals and 19 Assists in 20 games. In the end they won the President's Cup, the championship of the WHL.

In the fall of 1983, he finally managed to jump into the NHL squad the Philadelphia Flyers and was only a little later reunited with his twin brother, who was transferred from the Pittsburgh Penguins to Philadelphia in October. Ron Sutter preferred a defensive and physically tough game and moved in 1985 with the Flyers to the finals for the Stanley Cup one, but where they failed at the Edmonton Oilers. 1985/86 he had the best season of his career when he scored 59 points. The following year he was again in the Stanley Cup final, but regained the Edmonton Oilers to the Cup.

Ron Sutter had to fight at a young age with injuries and fell in almost every year over and over again from for some games. In the fall of 1991 he was transferred along with Murray Baron for Rod Brind'Amour and Dan Quinn to the St. Louis Blues, where he played under the direction of his older brother Brian. He played two and a half years rather unsuccessfully for St. Louis and was transferred in January 1994 to the Quebec Nordiques, but the charges a few months later, in the summer of 1994 to the New York Islanders.

During the 1994/95 season Sutter was able to complete only 27 games due to injury and the New York Islanders extended his contract in the summer of 1995 in the shortened by the lockout season anyway. He had then struggled to find a place in another NHL team and finally signed in the fall of a contract with the Phoenix Roadrunners of the International Hockey League unterklassigen. After good results at the Roadrunners, he was obliged by the Boston Bruins for the remainder of the season in March 1996 and scored in 18 NHL games, five goals and seven assists. At season's end, he left Boston again and signed with the San Jose Sharks.

In San Jose, he played a long time under the guidance of his older brother Darryl Sutter. Ron Sutter missing now the offensive skills and he scored only two seasons more than ten points. Instead, he was mainly used as a defensive center. After four years, he finally had to leave the Sharks because its leaked in summer 2000 contract was not renewed. He succeeded in it, not to be taken at another NHL team under contract, but remained still in San Jose fit. In February 2001, he finally obliged the Calgary Flames, where he still played until the end of the season and then finished his career.

Since the fall of 2001 Ron Sutter has worked as a Pro Scout for the Calgary Flames.

Ron Sutter have made it five in the NHL six brothers of those. His twin brother Rich Sutter played with him for three years in Philadelphia and was in a total of 874 games in the NHL active. He is now a scout. Both were trained in their active time in the NHL from her older brother Darryl Sutter. Darryl Sutter graduated 406 games and scored 279 points as a player, currently general manager of the Calgary Flames and was coach of three NHL teams.

Brent Sutter graduated 1,111 games and scored 829 points. With the New York Islanders, whose captain he was for four years, he twice won the Stanley Cup. Brent, which is 2007 coach of the New Jersey Devils since the summer, was playing with his older brother Duane, who won the Stanley Cup four times. Duane played 731 times in the NHL and came to 342 points. From 2000 to 2002 he coached the Florida Panthers and is currently the Director of Player Development.

The second generation of the family, it now moves now in the NHL.
