Ronald Pettersson

Erik Ronald " Sura - Pelle " Pettersson (* April 16, 1935 in Surahammar, † March 6, 2010 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach. Even as a football player, he was successful.

Career

Ronald Pettersson started his career as a hockey player in his hometown when Surahammars IF, for the first team, he was from 1952 to 1955 in Division 1, the then highest Swedish league, Division 2, and the second-class active. He then moved to Södertälje SK, with whom he immediately won the national title in the 1955/56 season. He received the 1960 Guldpucken as the best player of Sweden. After five years he left Södertälje and played from 1960 until his career end of 1968 for the Swedish Champion with Västra Frölunda IF, with whom he also Swedish Champion was in season 1964/65. His jersey number 14 has been blocked by Frölunda HC and issued more than to any other player.

After the end of his active career Pettersson worked among other things as a coach for the Swedish national team and the national team of Norway. In 2004, he was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame.

Internationally

For Sweden, Pettersson participated in the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, 1960 in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck part. At the Winter Games in 1964 he won the silver medal with his team. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the World Championships in 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1967. During the 1965 World Cup he won with his team the bronze at the World Championships in 1963 and 1967, the silver, and at the World Championships in 1957 and 1962, the gold medal. The best European team Sweden in 1957 and 1962 also European champion at the World Championship successes.
