Ronan Guilfoyle

Ronan Guilfoyle ( born March 5, 1958 in Dublin) is an Irish jazz musician and composer.

He studied bass guitar and improvisation at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada with teachers such as John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Steve Coleman. He is director of the jazz faculty at the Newpark Music Centre in Dublin and was a teacher of improvisation of the International Music Council of UNESCO. As a composer he wrote pieces for film and television, theater and numerous jazz ensembles such as the European Jazz Youth Orchestra, but also contemporary orchestral and chamber music. As a musician, he is with his own band regularly tours in Europe, Asia and North America. He has won several international awards and is a member of the Irish Academy of Arts.

His 2003 released CD E Xit he recorded with his band Lingua Franca and Irish folk musicians. Then are only to hear his own compositions, which combine in different ways modern jazz with Irish folk.
