Rondeau (forme fixe)

A Rondeau (French) is a roundelay in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Also, a musical form with recurrent refrain, which appears in the harpsichord, opera and ballet music since the 17th century, Rondeau is mentioned. But it is rather determined together with the Italian Rondo as with the medieval Rondeau.

Song form

In the poetry and music of the 14th and 15th century Rondeau is an artfully rhymed chorus song that is according to the rules of rhétoriqueurs of two parts A and B, which are repeated in a characteristic ( rondo -like ) manner:

A1 - B1 - A2 - A1 - A3 - B2 - A1 - B1.

A quatrain is a Rondeau Rondeau, both parts of which consist of two verses. It has the rhyme scheme: A- B -B -A.

In a rondeau cinquain consists of the A- part of 3 verses, the B- part of 2 verses. The rhyme scheme is here: A-A -B -B -A.

A Rondeau Layé is a modified Rondeau cinquain, in which, after the 2nd and 4th verse a fünfsilbiger each verse is inserted, so that the following rhyme scheme gives: AA-( A) - BB (B ) -A.

Poem

The Rondeau was derived from a French song form of the 13th century. It was a round dance and round dance song.

As a poetic form, there are numerous variations.

In the English-speaking world it was transformed to the Roundel, which has similar properties.

In German poetry was, for example, by GR Weckherlin, Ph. taken from Zesen and N. Götz and referred to as " marigold poem" or "all ".

To shape: It is usually einstrophig, has only two rhymes and verses 13 to 15 ( in the classic version, which was maintained by Villon ).

Characteristic is the chorus, which is absurd and is formed from the first words of the opening line.

The chorus appears in the 9th and on the last line.

This poem is split into a longer and a shorter part, sometimes these two parts are considered as verses.

Example of Weckherlin:

Georg Rodolf Weckherlin

Glick to / you farm you Hofleben VND / Since little grape vines vil VND / Since neither Warheit / trew still breed / In Pracht / lists VND fraud erbsucht Interweave with Schalckheit VND folly. You Hof / on the stick the sins / With all the vices around - vmbgeben / You nest of inertia VND Vnzucht Glick to. Your mouth is milt / hertz your darneben / Wore wrong / want vmbschweben wanckelbar / You vil Hofnung / little fruit; Wherefore nem of you I escape the / Vnd tell you / frey starting jetz my life / Glick to.
